An Innovation from Münster for Latin America: Foreign universities want to apply the concept of Science Marketing

April 25, 2013

Funded with 300.000 Euro by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the “UniTransfer” project’s aim is to transfer the research approach of the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre at Münster University of Applied Sciences to Latin America. The basis of this approach is the conviction that market mechanisms also work on the research market.

In the beginning of the project the President of Münster University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ute von Lojewski, welcomed the guests: “Internalization has become an institutional feature and belongs to the core tasks of the universities’ development. Therefore international projects such as UniTransfer are pointing the right way.” The 20 international scientists and university’s managers, which arrived from Mexico and Costa Rica just for the conference, shared this opinion.
The first two project weeks are planned for international presentations, workshops and company visits, with the main topics being science marketing, and technology transfer and innovations in University-Business Cooperation. Furthermore, the participants will visit academic institutions in Münster such as the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, the Center for Nanotechnology and the “Technologiehof”. Other upcoming seminars will take place in Costa Rica and Mexico. The project ends in September 2014 with a large international conference in the capital of Costa Rica, San José.

“The result of the conference will be an evaluation of the transfer of methods and tools from Münster to universities in Latin America”, says the organizer Prof. Dr. Thomas Baaken from the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre. “Our research competencies, capacities and results will be introduced and imparted there as well as extended for Latin America”, says the project coordinator of the faculty Business Administration, Victoria Galán-Muros.

About the project:

The project “UniTransfer” is being financed and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). It is part of the program “DIES partnerships” – which stands for “Dialogues on Innovative Higher Education Strategies” and promotes the scientific exchange. Highly welcomed are common proposals from German and foreign universities, like the one Münster University of Applied Sciences submitted. The program is also supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
