25 New Good-Practice Case Studies on University-Business Cooperation (UBC) in Europe and Beyond

April 04, 2017

Imagine an undergraduate learning environment where there are no exams, no classrooms, no teaching or teachers and no control over what students should learn. If this model seems somewhat futuristic, this educational model already has in fact a successful 23-year history in Finland.

The case of Tiimiakatemia (English: Team Academy) is among 25 good practice case studies which have been recently published as part of the 2016/17 State of European University Business Cooperation study, being undertaken for the European Commission. Designed to share innovative and inspiring practices on university-business cooperation (UBC) throughout Europe and beyond, these cases include UBC stories from Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western European countries, as well as practices at organizations such are MIT in the US A, Simon Fraser University in Canada, Yissum in Israel and iAccelerate in Australia.

The State of the European University Business Cooperation Study which is managed by S2BMRC as the lead partner, was first executed in 2010-11, and aims to establish a more profound, comprehensive and up to date understanding of the state of UBC in Europe, from the perspective of both the HEIs and the business sector. Through over 30 expert interviews, a major quantitative study and a policy review, the project seeks to clarify the main drivers and barriers for the different stakeholders, the influence of the regulatory framework and socio-economic conditions as well as determining the kind of measures/initiatives existed on a regional/national level to support the development of UBC.

Currently the project is in the process of developing a further 25 good practice cases to be published in summer 2017. Ultimately, these cases will be included by the European Commission in a UBC good practice report.

The first 25 case studies can be downloaded here.
